Tertulia is a language-exchange app: you chat with people who speak the language you're learning. This page explains what we collect, why, who processes it, and how to delete it. We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.
What we collect
- Your profile: the languages you speak and are learning, your photos, and anything you add: first name, a short bio, city, gender, time zone.
- Your login: you can start without one. If you save your account, we keep your email, or the email, name and identifier from Apple or Google if you use them. We never see those passwords.
- Your chats: messages, photos, voice notes and their transcripts, and corrections you send.
- Safety records: Shield’s decision on each message, reports, blocks, bans and the private check-ins partners give each other.
- Learning records: points, missions and, only if you turn Coach on, the skills you used right or slipped on.
- Your journal, if you write one: the entries, and the fixes and quiz answers found in them.
- Activity: when you were last online and how quickly you usually reply, so people know who’s around.
- Feedback you send us, with the screen, app version and phone model.
- Your phone’s notification token, if you turn notifications on.
How AI is used
- Shield checks every message, photo and voice note for harassment, unwanted sexual content, threats and scams before or as it’s delivered.
- Text, photos and voice transcripts are sent to Anthropic’s Claude to be checked, and, when you ask, translated or coached. With the journal coach or a journal quiz on, your entry is sent to Claude to find fixes and write questions.
- Voice notes are sent to OpenAI to be transcribed. A spoken journal entry is too, and its recording is deleted as soon as it’s written down; only the text is kept.
- Neither company may use this data to train its models. We ask for your OK before your first message.
Who processes it
- Supabase stores the app’s data and runs its servers.
- Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI, as above.
- Expo delivers notifications to your phone.
- Apple or Google, only if you sign in with them.
- We don’t sell your data, show ads or share it with anyone else, unless the law requires it.
Who can see what
- Members see your profile, trust score and badges. Accounts limited for low trust can’t see photos.
- Your chats are visible to you and the person you’re talking to. Our moderators can see reported chats and messages Shield held back, to keep people safe.
- Check-ins are private, and your Coach log is visible only to you.
- Your journal is visible only to you. Not your partners, not our moderators, and Shield doesn’t read it.
Keeping and deleting it
- We keep your data while your account exists.
- Profile → Delete my account removes your sign-in, profile, photos, chats, voice notes, journal and feedback straight away. People you talked with lose those chats.
- A record that an account was reported or banned may be kept to keep members safe.
Age
- Tertulia is for adults, 18 and over.
